【摘要】:Valuesofhydraulicconductivitydeterminedbythistestmethodmaybeusefulinmakingroughpreliminaryestimatesoftheinitialratesofdrainageandcompressionofpeatdepositswhentheonlyeffectivestressincreaseonthedepositisthatresultingfromamoderate,gradualloweringofthewatertable.Evenunderlight,sustainedloads,peatwillundergodramaticvolumechangesthatinfluence(decrease)thehydraulicconductivityofthedepositbyseveralordersofmagnitude.Thistestmethoddoesnotofferprovisionsforthedeterminationoftherelationshipbetweenhydraulicconductivityandthevoidratioscorrespondingtoincreasingstresslevels.Therefore,thistestmethodisnotsuitableforapplicationsinvolvinggradeincreases,suchasembankmentconstructionorplacementofaccessbermsalongsidedrainageditches.Undisturbedspecimensfromapparentlyhomogeneouspeatdepositsatthesamelocationoftenexhibitsignificantlydifferenthydraulicconductivitypropertiesduetovariationsinmaterialcompositionandsamplingprocedure.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthehydraulicconductivity(permeability)ofessentiallysaturated,intactcylindricalspecimensofpeatwhenthehydraulicconductivityisgreaterthan110-7m/s(110-5cm/s).Duringthetest,thespecimensarecontainedinthecoreholder,orinright,regularcylindricalsectionscutfromthesamplingtubeinwhichtheywereoriginallyobtainedinthefield.1.2Hydraulicconductivityiscalculatedonthebasisofthemeasuredconstantflowratethroughthespecimenunderconstanthead.Forverification,flowratedeterminationsmaybemadeattwoormorevaluesofconstantheadwithcorrespondingcalculationsofhydraulicconductivity.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.4AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguideforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.4.1Theproceduresusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected/recordedandcalculatedinthisstandardareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inaddition,theyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatshouldgenerallyberetained.Theproceduresuseddonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsfortheuser''sobjectives,anditiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsofreporteddatatobecommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthisstandardtoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalysismethodsforengineeringdesign.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
