【摘要】:Hand-heldmetersprovidearapidmeansofsamplingMCofwood-basedmaterialsduringandafterprocessingtomaintainqualityassuranceandcompliancewithstandards.ThesemeasurementsareinfluencedbyactualMC,anumberofotherwoodvariables,environmentalconditions,geometryofthemeasuringprobecircuitry,anddesignofthemeter.Themaximumaccuracycanonlybeobtainedbyanawarenessoftheeffectofeachparameteronthemeteroutputandcorrectionofreadingsasspecifiedbythistestmethod.Thistestmethodemployscontrolledconditionsandstraight-grain,clearwoodspecimenstoprovidemeasurementsthatarereproducibleinalaboratory.Thecontrolledconditionspreventmoistureandtemperaturegradientsinthetestspecimen.Inlaboratorycalibration,thereferencedirectmoisturemeasurements(forexample,TestMethodsD4442)shallbemadeonlyintheareaofdirectmeasurementofthemeter.Thisminimizeserrorassociatedwithsamplingofdifferingareasofmeasurementbetweenthistestmethodandthatofthereference(TestMethodsD4442).Mostusesofhand-heldmoisturemetersemploycorrelative(predictive)relationshipsbetweenthemeterreadingandwoodareasorvolumesthatexceedthatofthedirectmetermeasurement(forexample,largerspecimens,piecesoflumber,orlots).Thesecorrelativerelationshipsarebeyondthescopeofthistestmethod.(SeePracticeD7438.)1.1Thistestmethodappliestothemeasurementofmoisturecontent(MC)ofsolidwoodproducts,includingthosecontainingadditives(thatis,chemicalsoradhesives)forlaboratorystandardizationandcalibrationofhand-heldmoisturemeters1.2Thistestmethodmakesnodistinctionbetweenmetermeasurementtechnologiesforstandardizationandcalibrationrequirements.Provisionismadefortestspecimensizetoaccommodatespecificmeters.AppendixX1providesanexplanatorydiscussionandhistorycorrespondingtothemandatorysections.FundamentalmeasurementtechnologiesaredescribedinAppendixX2whenavailable.1.2.1Metersemployingdifferingtechnologiesmaynotprovideequivalentreadingsunderthesameconditions.Whenthistestmethodhasbeenapplied,itisassumedthatthereferencedmeterisacceptableunlessotherwisespecified.MetersshallbecalibratedwithrespecttoMCbydirectmeasurementasdeterminedbyTestMethodsD4442.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
